Learn French and Spanish with Šara!

My name is Dr. Šara (“Sha-rah"), and I started Bilingual Birdies Asheville to increase diversity and language-learning for littles in Asheville. I'm a trilingual performer with a PhD in Performance and Cultural Studies. I've lived in France, Senegal, Brazil, Cape Verde, and toured on many international stages! When I'm not performing, I love teaching kids to learn about other cultures through my years of experience as an arts educator with Bilingual Birdies and beyond. I speak French and Portuguese and teach French alongside running operations at Bilingual Birdies Asheville.

How Bilingual Birdies Works

Our mission is to encourage cross-cultural awareness through our language and music curriculum so that children will grow up to be more open-minded adults.

Virtual and in-person services include:

Schools, birthdays and private classes

Juan Manuel Diaz

Juan Manuel Diaz is a Spanish teacher, father, and musician from Mexico City, Mexico. He has taught Spanish to children and adults in the US and Mexico in schools, service organizations, and universities. Juan understands how little kids are drawn to music, both professionally and personally-- he secretly watched his sister take guitar lessons at a young age which motivated him to later receive a degree in instrumental Guitar from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico. (Along with an economics degree from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico.) In addition to having a gift for working with young children, he teaches Spanish to teenagers and young adults with special needs. He is thrilled to join the BBAVL team where his many talents can combine!

Come join us for an 8 week Spanish sing-a-long series in Woodfin, featuring TWO TEACHERS: Dani and Melissa. Dani and Melissa will alternate Saturdays. Class dates are March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6, 12, 20. Makeup date will likely be a Sunday instead of a Saturday. Classes are mixed ages because we want to welcome families to attend with their siblings. Siblings can come for 50% off using the code TWOBIRDIE. At the Attic Salt Theater Company, park and enter the entrance on Riverside Drive, rather than going into the back of the building. Extra parking in the supplemental lot on the other side of Riverside Drive. This space is funky-- it's a theater space in a warehouse! We are giving it a try this series. We hope to offer more Saturdays in a limited capacity. For questions, email asheville@bilingualbirdies.com.
